Finding My Strength Again: My Journey with I Can Move More

When Janice first joined the I Can Therapy Centre, she was unsure of what to expect, however, the service gradually became a regular part of her routine and an important contributor to her overall wellbeing. She shares her experience as an active member of the community, highlighting how being part of I Can has made a meaningful difference in her life.

Empowerment
Since joining, Janice has noticed a remarkable change. She often arrives at the centre feeling stiff and bent, but leaves feeling straighter and more aligned. The physical benefits have been significant – it is more than just exercise; it feels as though her body is remembering how it is meant to feel. The benefits, however, extend beyond the physical. Janice values this time as an hour entirely for herself – a chance to rest her mind, switch off from daily worries, and simply be present. This dedicated “me hour” has become something she truly enjoys and feels deeply grateful for.

Excellence
Each visit begins with warm smiles from the team at the centre. No matter who she meets, Janice consistently feels welcomed and supported. The care and guidance she receives are rooted in kindness – not only professional, but deeply personal. Janice genuinely looks forward to attending; it has become a highlight of her day. That small window of time brings a sense of lightness and clarity, making everything feel a little brighter.

Reflecting on how much I Can Move More has meant to her, a few moments stand out. During the COVID period, Janice took a break from attending the centre, and it took longer than she had hoped to return. When she finally did, she remembers thinking how much she wished she had come back sooner – a realisation that reinforced the lasting impact the service has on her life. More recently, Janice experienced a very difficult and unexpected incident. Despite everything she was dealing with, she chose to attend her I Can appointments the following day. That hour for herself proved invaluable – helping to clear her mind, restore her strength and remind her that she has the resilience to get through it.

Community
One of the most meaningful aspects of I Can for Janice is the people. Through the service, she has reconnected with friends she has known for years and formed new friendships as well, even spending time together outside the centre. There is something about the environment that brings out the best in people, and this is something Janice deeply values.

Being part of the I Can community gives her a strong sense of safety, support and belonging. Janice knows she can speak openly with any member of staff about anything, and that level of trust and care means a great deal to her.

Inspiration
When reflecting on her experience, Janice would encourage anyone considering the I Can Therapy Centre to simply give it a try. She believes many people may be surprised by the impact it can have – not only physically, but mentally as well. If asked to describe her experience in just a few words, Janice describes it as a “highlight of the day.” Her inspiration for joining was simple yet deeply meaningful: she wanted to walk better, stay fit, and most importantly, continue to play with her great-grandchildren. Being present with them – moving, laughing, and keeping up – matters greatly to her. Staying active allows Janice to keep doing what she loves, and she is determined not to lose that.

Janice’s experience highlights how transformative I Can can be for both body and mind. For anyone looking to improve their mobility, boost their wellbeing and connect with a supportive community, joining the I Can Therapy Centre could be the first step toward positive, lasting change.
