When Haniah first attended Yoga for Wellbeing, like many, she wasn’t sure what to expect. She questioned whether she would be able to keep up, whether yoga was “for her,” and whether she could truly find calm within her busy life. What she didn’t expect was to find empowerment, connection, healing and a renewed sense of who she was. Her journey shows how accessible wellbeing support can spark confidence and meaningful change – both personally and within her family.
Healing Through Breath and Mindfulness
Breath work quickly became one of the most transformative parts of Haniah’s journey. She recalls how simply remembering to breathe calmed her mind, slowed her thoughts and helped her relax. Throughout the course, she learned:
● To listen to her body and honour its limits
● That it’s okay not to get every moment “right”
● That connecting with herself physically and emotionally was essential
These techniques helped her pause, reflect and respond calmly in challenging situations.
Finding Strength and Setting Boundaries
As her confidence grew, Haniah began noticing changes at home. She felt more empowered to set boundaries with her children and to stand by them without second guessing herself. She said she felt “stronger – both in mind and body,” along with a rising confidence that told her, “I can handle this.” Those early breakthroughs became the foundation for even greater personal growth.
Community Support That Made a Difference
The yoga for wellbeing course was more than physical practice for Haniah – the course offered her warmth, conversation and genuine support. Haniah expressed deep gratitude for the care she received, calling it “amazing” and “outstanding.” Without it, she would still feel stuck in a difficult cycle. The sense of belonging gave her a safe space to open, learn and grow.
Bringing Calm into Family Life
By beginning her days with prayer, reflection and self-care, Haniah found a new morning calm that her children started to echo in their own behaviour. A particularly meaningful moment came when her son shared why he liked her help applying his eczema cream. It wasn’t about dependency – it was about connection and feeling cared for.
This experience deepened their communication and reminded her how small, caring moments can strengthen family bonds.
Building New Connections and Stepping into Opportunities
Through the programme, Haniah built new friendships and even joined Aisling from Test Valley Borough Council’s wellness team on a visit to a refuge, where she explored the idea of offering taster yoga sessions to women there. Although she was offered voluntary roles, she chose to prioritise her wellbeing rather than rush into commitments – a boundary she once found difficult to set. This shift toward self-respect was a major milestone in her journey.
Looking Forward with Confidence
With growing self-belief, Haniah now feels excited about returning to work when the time is right. She dreams of building a career, creating experiences for her children and continuing her personal development. Yoga helped her clear the “ifs and buts,” giving her confidence to step into new possibilities.
