Hannah’s Story: From Participant to Volunteer to Community Coordinator

When Hannah first stepped into a Yoga for Wellbeing session back in January 2025, she had no idea she was taking the first step on a journey that would reshape her confidence, her purpose, and ultimately her career.

What began as a brave decision to try something new during a particularly low moment has grown into a story filled with courage, connection and community – the very essence of I Can Move More.

A Chance Conversation That Changed Everything

Hannah describes her starting point honestly and openly. At the time, she was struggling with low self-esteem, heightened anxiety and the after-effects of several health scares. Like many of us, she had slipped down her own priority list while caring for her children and managing the pressures of everyday life.

Then one afternoon, while simply doing arts and crafts at a friend’s house, everything shifted.

A new friend – Naomi, a Yoga for Wellbeing instructor – gently encouraged Hannah to try one of her classes. Despite her hesitation, worries about boundaries, and even a previous medical caution against yoga due to hypermobility, Hannah decided to take that brave first step.

“It was probably one of the best things I’ve done in a very long time,” she reflects.

Reconnecting With Herself

Through Yoga for Wellbeing, Hannah rediscovered something she hadn’t experienced in years – the ability to listen to and care for herself.

From Participant to Volunteer

When the 12-week course came to an end, Hannah didn’t want her journey with I Can Move More to stop. At that same moment, the programme’s support worker was moving, and a volunteer was needed.

Without hesitation, Hannah stepped forward.

A New Path Opens

Not long afterwards, a Community Coordinator role became available with Valley Leisure. Encouraged by Naomi and fuelled by a new sense of self-belief, Hannah applied.

Four months into the job, she still feels the impact of that decision every day.

A Ripple Effect Far Beyond Herself

What touches Hannah the most is the way her journey has influenced life at home. By prioritising her wellbeing, she has found she is calmer, more grounded and more present.
